English Version A boat may sail through towering waves while those aboard remain calm, yet onlookers on shore tremble with fear. When harsh words are spoken at a banquet, those present may ignore them, but outsiders are often shocked. True composure lies not in escaping the world, but in rising above it while still within it. A stone asked the Buddha: “Should I marry the one I love, or the one who loves me?” The Buddha replied: “Who makes you feel alive and walk with your head held high?” A Zen master drew a dot on a whiteboard and asked his students what they saw. All answered, “A black dot.” He smiled: “Did none of you see the vast white space?” A post tied to a small boat mocked the boat: “See? You’ve lost your freedom.” The boat replied: “So have you.” Those who try to bind others are themselves bound. The Buddha asked a monk: “How long is life?” “A few days,” one replied. “Between meals,” said another. A third answered: “Between breaths.” The Buddha nodded: “That is life indeed.” Life is not the black dot but the whiteboard. Let go of control, rise above the noise, and breathe. In that breath, eternity begins.
