The height of your vision determines where you begin. In both action and character, look further and aim higher.
At thirteen, Wang Yangming asked his teacher, “What is the most important thing in life?” The teacher replied, “To study and become a top scholar.” For most scholars at the time, that was the ultimate goal. But young Wang disagreed: “Becoming a scholar is not enough. To read and become a sage—that is the most important thing.”
Emperor Taizong of Tang once said, “Aim for the best, and you may achieve the average; aim for the average, and you may fall below; aim for the lowest, and you will gain nothing.”
To elevate your life, you must first elevate your vision. Where your eyes look, your path will follow.
