A man in ancient Zhao loved to boast. He claimed to have met legendary figures like Fuxi, Nuwa, the Yellow Emperor, and many others, saying he had lived for thousands of years. One day, the King of Zhao fell from his horse and was badly injured. The doctor said only blood over a thousand years old could cure him. So the king ordered the boaster’s blood. Terrified, the man admitted he had lied, but the king no longer believed him and had him killed.
Many people exaggerate to seem impressive. But when others take their words seriously, the consequences can be severe. A boast may sound harmless, but it can become a trap.
True wisdom lies in speaking with humility and acting with caution. Pride invites trouble; honesty protects the soul. Let this story remind us: words have power. Use them wisely, or they may one day be used against you.
