Love, like a river, changes course over time. The story of Zhuo Wenjun and Sima Xiangru remains a timeless mirror of the human heart.
Zhuo Wenjun was born into wealth and blessed with beauty and talent. Yet, she abandoned her privileged life to elope with a poor scholar, drawn by the melody of his qin. Together, they sold wine, living a simple life full of shared devotion.
But success changed Sima Xiangru. When he rose to fame as an official, he sent Wenjun a puzzling letter: the numbers one through ten, but missing the character for "ten thousand." In Chinese, "ten thousand" sounds like "memory." He was telling her: "I have no memory of us."
Heartbroken but never humiliated, Wenjun replied with poems of dignity and sorrow. Her words cut deep, awakening his conscience and saving their love.
This story teaches us: true love is not about never falling apart—it's about finding the courage to mend what's broken. Love needs wisdom, self-respect, and the strength to speak the truth.
May we all love deeply, yet remain clear-eyed and free.
