A man of Zhao once boasted that he had lived for thousands of years, claiming to have met ancient sages like Fuxi and Nuwa. When the King of Zhao fell from his horse and was severely injured, the doctor said only blood from someone over a thousand years old could save him. The king ordered the man's blood to be taken. Terrified, the man confessed he had been lying, but the king, believing he was merely trying to save his life, had him killed nonetheless.
Many people exaggerate to seem important, not realizing their words may one day be taken seriously. A careless boast might earn a laugh, but it can also lead to disaster.
Speak with care. Let your words be true and your humility genuine. In a world quick to believe, honesty is not just virtue—it is survival.
