A Tale of Two Brothers
When Cao Pi became emperor, he feared his gifted younger brother, Cao Zhi. To test him, he demanded a poem within seven steps—or face death. Grieving yet composed, Cao Zhi recited:
“Beans simmer in the pot,
Their stalks burn underneath.
Born from the same root,
Why torment each other in haste?”
This ancient story reminds us of a timeless truth: conflict often arises from fear and envy. We hurt those closest to us, forgetting we share the same origin.
True strength lies not in suppressing others, but in honoring differences and embracing coexistence. When we replace jealousy with appreciation, and rivalry with compassion, we find peace.
Let us learn from the bean and the stalk—different, yet inseparable. In harmony, we grow. In kindness, we thrive.
