A meal may be small, but the gratitude it inspires can be immeasurable.
Before Han Xin became a great general, he lived in poverty. Often hungry, he fished by the river, hoping for luck. A kind woman who worked there shared her food with him day after day. Grateful, Han Xin promised to repay her greatly. She replied simply, “I helped you not for reward.”
Years later, as a prince, Han Xin remembered her kindness. He sent her gold and fine food to express his thanks.
This story teaches us two things: help others without expecting anything in return, and never forget the kindness you receive. Even a small gesture—a meal, a word, a moment of support—can leave a lasting mark.
When you can, give freely. When you receive, remember deeply.
Kindness, once set in motion, always finds its way back.
