Yu Xuanji, a Tang Dynasty poetess, was gifted in both beauty and talent. Her famous line, "A priceless treasure is easy to find, but a faithful heart is hard to come by," still resonates today.
She once admired the older poet Wen Tingyun, but their age gap kept them apart. Later, she became a concubine to a man who ultimately failed her, and was sent to a Taoist temple by his jealous wife. Though she seemed to have renounced the world, her heart remained restless. She socialized with scholars and artists, but emotional turmoil led her to accidentally kill her maid, resulting in her execution.
A brilliant life ended in tragedy. Her story teaches us that talent alone is not enough—true wisdom lies in mastering our emotions and making clear choices. In pursuing brilliance, never forget to nurture inner peace.
