In the ancient state of Zhao, there lived an alchemist who loved to boast. He claimed to have met legendary figures such as Fuxi, Nuwa, the Yellow Emperor, and even the Queen Mother of the West, asserting he had lived for thousands of years. One day, the King of Zhao fell from his horse and was gravely injured. The physician said only blood from someone over a thousand years old could cure him. The king immediately ordered the alchemist to be captured for his blood. Terrified, the alchemist confessed his tales were lies, but the king refused to believe him, thinking he was merely trying to save his life. The alchemist was killed.
Many people enjoy exaggerating, believing that grand claims make them appear impressive. But when others take them seriously, the consequences can be severe. A person who boasts lightly may pay dearly. True wisdom lies in humility and sincerity. Speak with care, act with integrity, and let your deeds speak louder than your words. For in the end, it is not the loudest voice, but the most honest one, that earns lasting respect.
