The fall of Earl Zhi was not due to enemy strength, but to his own arrogance.
When his advisor Zhi Guo warned that the lords of Han and Wei might betray him, the Earl dismissed it, trusting their pact to divide Zhao’s land. Zhi Guo then suggested rewarding their key advisors to secure loyalty. But the Earl refused, unwilling to share the spoils.
He who clings to every gain loses all. He who ignores warnings invites disaster.
That night, Zhao, Han, and Wei united. The Earl’s camp was flooded, his army crushed, and his house obliterated.
True wisdom lies not in power, but in listening. Greatness is built not on greed, but on foresight.
Thus, the wise heed small voices; the prudent let go to gain more.
