Mao Sui Recommends Himself
Mao Sui was a guest of Lord Pingyuan during the Warring States period. When his lord failed to secure military aid from the King of Chu after long negotiations, Mao stepped forward uninvited.
Ignoring the king’s anger, he walked directly into the hall and said, “This matter is simple—either beneficial or harmful. Why hesitate?” When the king ordered him to leave, Mao drew his sword and replied, “Within ten steps, your life is in my hands.” He then calmly explained why aiding Zhao would also benefit Chu. Impressed, the king agreed to send troops.
True confidence is not arrogance, but the courage to act when it matters most. Mao succeeded not by shouting louder, but by understanding the situation clearly and speaking with conviction.
In life, opportunity often favors those who dare to step forward. If you are prepared, do not wait to be called. Humility should not become hesitation, nor should authority silence wisdom. Sometimes, the best way to begin is to rise and speak.
